positive home pregnancy test after stillbirth

I am 27 days out from delivering my stillborn baby girl. I was only 22 weeks along when she came early. I did a home pregnancy test and it shows positive. Is it just HCG left over from being pregnant 27 days ago? or could I be pregnant again?

i'm so sorry for your loss, mama.  i think it takes a while for the hcg level to fall.

I am so sorry for your loss.Usually hcg takes awhile to drop back to normal levels, and the length of time is related to how long you were pregnant. It should drop at the same rate it doubles in early pregnancy, so you should see a 50% drop every 2-3 days. Sometimes it does take longer. If there is a chance you could be pregnant, I would probably ask for a blood test to see where your levels are. It is possible to ovulate a couple weeks after the pregnancy ends.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby girl. I agree it could go either way....best way to know for sure is to have 2 beta blood tests done 2-3 days apart. If the number is doubling, that would indicate a new pregnancy. If not, it's just the HCG lowering after your stillbirth.
