I didn't know where to post this, but it seemed like the best place!
Â
I nanny a 6 yr boy who is an only child. The other day I told him I was going to step into the other room for a few minutes and feed my 9mo DD. A few minutes later he walked into the room, watched my daughter breastfeed for a few seconds then started asking me questions.
Â
6yo: what does she eat?
me: milk!
6yo: MILK??
me: yes! you know how a cow makes milk for it's babies? Human moms make milk for their babies too!
Â
Â
The 6 yo thinks about it for 30 seconds, then asks:
Does it come from your elbow??
Â
So I just smiled and said, "actually no, it comes from my chest." I can see that is is really confused by this, so I said, " You know how you have nipples on your chest? Mom's have nipples too, and that is where milk for babies come from."
Â
He still looked pretty confused, then asked, "When is she going to drink from a bottle?"
Â
I just responded, "probably never" and that seemed to satisfy him, at least for the time being.
Â
The next day his mom told me he had a LOT of questions for her that night
.
