Front Loader 101?

Thread Starter

I just moved into a place that has a front loader.  I've done a couple loads of clothes which worked fine, but today I started looking at manuals and web resources (gotta do diapers today or tomorrow) and now I think I did the clothes wrong ;-)  My machine is an LG TROMM WM2677HSM.  For clothes I use Sunlight Green Free n Clear.  For diapers I use Rockin Green and I have Motherease AIOs.  Couple questions:

1. Laundry additives... DD is going through a pee accident phase (whole nother thread..) and I noticed our old machine wasn't getting out the odors.  I was using Arm & Hammer So Clean washing soda to kill the smells.  Where do I put that with the front loader?  I put it right in with the clothes and it worked but is it going to build up a residue over time?  I also sometimes throw baking soda in with loads of diapers.

2. Anybody try diapers on this machine?  Some resources are saying to use the sanitary setting, others say cotton setting (sanitary will wreck them over time.)  Some say run a cold cycle first, some say just use prewash.  Also many resources seem to reference the water plus button, which I don't have or can't find.  (DH is downloading the manual for me but I can't access it right now because I'm on a borrowed Mac and apparently you need Internet Explorer.)

thanks mamas!

I've always had front loaders (it's hard to find anything else in the UK).

If I'm adding anything to the wash I usually stick it straight in with the clothes, I find powders tends to stick in the draw. Even the detergent sticks so I prefer liquids.

I used to stick the nappies on  cold rinse then onto a cotton wash, generally 60 but if we'd had a bug or something I would do 90 but leave out the wraps (ours said 60 was the max temp).  We had the option to add a extra rinse which I used when I remembered.

The prewash was also fine, especially if I was heading out since it carried straight onto the wash, however I think I had a few more stains as I couldn't set the temperatures differently. A cold start seemed to get them out better for me.

I never had any smell issues when line drying but if I used the drier they never seemed as fresh though not bad.
