Parent Coach?

Is there such a thing as a Parent Coach?  Our sibling set has been with us for 10 months now.  They are 2,3,4yo.  I constantly feel like I am trying to catch up to them.  I know it is typical at this age that something worked last week and doesn't work this week.   But, there are 3 of them!  I feel like I am doing something wrong constantly.  And I can't even start to worry about how we are working on attachment.  But, it is on the list.  Right now our biggest   issues are discipline, tantrums and sleep.  We haven't finalized the adoptions yet and I keep asking the professionals if they can refer us to a parenting coach to help us figure things out.  I am constantly online, asking people and trying to look things up in books etc. Part of the problem is that I don't even know where to start.  I'm so overwhelmed often issues come up and need to be dealt with immediately we don't even have time to come up with a plan or a philosophy.

We have been referred to In Home Therapy which was a circus and I felt didn't get us anywhere, Center For Family Connections which is working with our 4yo only.  Now we have a Family Partner from a private agency. But, she is a woman who happens to have a biological child with special needs and some resources for many families.  So far she has tried to be supportive but, she cannot answer our questions.

Where do other people go to get help?

Hi Violet. It sounds like you are really stressed. I wonder if you could ask for a different worker from the Home Therapy program. Perhaps this person just didn't have experience with foster/adoption? A lot of workers in those programs are trained to deal with issues before a family loses children to custody, not after adoption. A more focused worker might be able to help you get the clarity you are seeking. It sounds very difficult!

I live in Tucson and we have a great place to call for such help. http://www.theparentconnectionaz.org/ Perhaps you could contact them and see if they can refer you to someplace close to you.

There's a wonderful parenting coach in the KC area (obviously not where you are) that might be willing to do phone consultations.  She spoke at last months Holistic Moms Network meeting here and was great.  She does a lot with Love and Logic as well as mixing some other techniques in where she sees a need.  PM if you'd like her info.
