'Kay, here's how it works: Assuming you O'd August 16th, count 9 months forward (so sept, oct, nov, etc, etc) which gets you to May 16th. Then subtract 7 days, which gets you May 9th, so pretty close.

If you want to do it by adding 40 weeks, you need to add 40 weeks starting from the first day of your last menstrual period, based on the assumption that you ovulate on day 14. A 40 week pregnancy actually includes the 2 weeks before you ovulate. I've always thought that was ridiculous but that's the way it works.
