Our hen's hard work paid off!

We have a very broody hen.  My 9 year old daughter, who has an egg business, decides to let "Fluffy" (the hen, so named because she is always fluffing feathers over eggs, most of our hens aren't named but she warrants it) keep one egg, so she marked it with an X.  We didn't really think she would hatch it, but here they are!IMG_1206.JPG

Congratulations!  We just let our broody Buff Orpingtons hatch some fertile eggs from a friend. (They love nothing better than being broody it seems.)  I love the look of surprise when they see their new chick!  I swear they are bursting with joy.

I am so happy for your daughter.  What fun!

My daughter is so proud of the hen.  She goes everywhere with it under the wing and fends off the other hens if they get too curious.  Buff Orphingtons are so pretty.  We have  Sussex/Barred Rock crosses and some laying hybrids.  We always figured that it would be the Sussexes to go broody, but Fluffy is a laying hybrid and loves to sit on eggs.
