9.5 weeks with mucousy discharge, sometimes a bit of blood??

Hi All:

Looking for some advice.  I'm pregnant with baby no.2 and am about 9.5 weeks.  I have been having really heavy mucousy discharge, sometimes tinged with blood.  Went in for an U/S yesterday and everything looked perfect.  Baby has a good heartbeat...but I'm still a bit freaked by the mucous.  Normal?  When to worry?

This is my first, so I don't have a lot of experience. But I know I bled pretty heavy, bright red blood on and off for two weeks right about that stage of pregnancy. I was terrified that I was miscarrying, but everything ended up absolutely fine. I'm 30 weeks now and he's bouncing around like crazy and healthy as can be.

I would ask your doctor, but if they just did an ultrasound and there wasn't anything wrong, they probably won't be able to tell you anything more. I know there's usually nothing they can do, even when there's something wrong, before you get to about 20 weeks. I think you should really just do your best to stay positive. Think about that strong heartbeat and how fast your little one is growing in there, and look forward to the next time you get to see him on the U/S!

The discharge is normal. It's actually part of the pregnancy hormones. So long as it doesn't smell, you're most likely just fine.

As for the blood, if you're not cramping you should also most likely be fine. With my first I bled on and off until somewhere around 20 weeks and she's a crazy 2 year old now. Sometimes blood is left over stuff or sometimes it can just be the fact that your cervix is extra sensitive and full of blood at the moment. Though I don't have experience with it, I've heard that miscarriage doesn't generally start off small and get stronger. It's just suddenly a lot of blood. I'm sure that it can be different for different women, but I wouldn't worry about small amounts regularly.
