On another note, I just am hating people today. I wish I could make folks just disappear for a few more weeks. I'm trying not to be intensely neurotic about visitors, but even a 20 minute pop in gave me a panic attack today. On the flip side, I'm excited about our DDC turning into a social group. There was a troll post in the FB thread that was downright mean! I don't know about y'all, but I need as much sensitivity as possible right now!!

Also, has anyone heard from Emerging Butterfly? I was nursing DD this morning and she popped into my head...

I am excited about moving to a Social Group too... it's funny because there have been some insensitive DDCC comments here before, but now that we are having our babies, I just feel more protective and sensitive about all of you!

And you probably already saw it by now, but Sara posted a new thread. No baby yet, but she doesn't have a computer so isn't here much lately.

Oh, thank you for the link! I will check it out now. I think, I will be skipping giving the VIT D too...

If I remember correctly there were couple of mamas here who suffered from pubic symphsis (sp) dysfuntion during pregnancy, how are you doing now in that regard? I felt so much better right after the birth. However, in last few days it has been hurting me again just like the way it did during pregnancy. I did read it takes some time for this to go away completely....but I'm bit anxious why after feeling better the pain has returned full force. I do think most likely it's from carrying and lifting the baby on and off whole night....

So, this morning baby had her first longest stretch of sleep to date...from around 8.30 am to 1.30 p.m.!!  joy.gifAnd that's after being up ALL.NIGHT!! Her crying fit has lessened..now, she is up all night but doesn't cry as much. However, she has this interesting routine like clockwork right after 5 in the morning she will scream at top of her lungs for hours and then will sleep! I don't understand this. at.all! But now I'm not complaining as she does sleep during day time...but I can't sleep when she sleeps...I got other things to do! gah!

And I'm oh SO very glad my husband is not around...can't even think of dtd!! I had second degree tear and got stiches....all is healed and all but I feel very strange down there...like very tight and do not like it at all. Anyone has this issue?

Another question, out of curiosity (I'm not going back to work anytime soon but..) those of you going back to work...what are you doing about the child care thing? I will have to look for a job next year...but believe it or not, I'm already dreading this!  If our entire dept didn't move to out of the country (outsource beauty!) I don't think I would have quit my job (which was pretty darn good- maternity leave was 4 months 100% paid...!!). My SIL had a baby a month before me, and she is going back in Oct I think...it almost makes me crazy to think to leave such a small baby and go to work.  But I know...c'est la vie!

PP with babysitter issue, hope things get better with that. I had a supervisor once who basically went through babysitter change every 6 months as she wanted someone from her country and they come to US with 6 months visa and leave...it was tough. Can't imagine how it's on the kids seeing all different ppl so very often.

I always feel bad when I manage to post something in this thread because I can't ever manage to keep up with the ongoing convos. I do read every single post, but it's hit and miss when tapatalk actually let's me post anything from my phone and sitting at the computer is nearly impossible for me these days. Grr...

Anyway, I'm still around, just lurking most often.

Do any of your babies have newborn acne yet? Alexander has it really bad all over his poor little face. It makes me so sad to see him all blotchy and red greensad.gif. Nickolas had it too, but not quite this bad. He did have a nasty case of cradle cap though, and so far we don't have any signs of that with Alexander.

As for DTD, it's totally not on my radar yet and DH can just tough it out as far as I'm concerned. I just stopped bleeding a few days ago. I think I'm gonna just let DH think I need to be cleared for sex by my OB when I go for my 6 wk checkup in a couple of weeks.

OMG Finn has it and it is SO HARD for me not to pick his little pimples!!  Nora didn't have it at all, she was peaches and cream from the get go.  This poor boy is such a pizza face, and me being an esthetician, I just want to grab my extractor and go to town!!  But of course, I won't, lol!

O/T - I'm getting so frustrated with my ring sling.  I loved it with Nora but it's making me batty.  The fabric keeps getting twisted in the rings, and I can't seem to ever get the top rail tight enough.  By the time it's tight enough, it's seriously digging into my neck.  I've watched a few videos on youtube trying to get it right but man, I'm getting frazzled!!  Any tips?

Yes! I don't like it!  It's not terrible, but it's bad enough. All this glowing baby skin and then he turns 13 :P

I'm having this same problem. I end up tightening it enough to be close but not where it really should be. I'm hoping when Liam gets a bit bigger he fills out the sling a bit more. My tail is also way too long (it's home made.) but I'm hoping I might be able to use it for shorter wrap carries perhaps. (I used a no-sew method for making it, so the rings are removable.)

Jude also has baby acne and I hate it! Its not horrible but I wish it would go away soon!

I'm glad to see some of your little ones are sleeping more. I hope everyone is getting some kind of routine down!

Carrie I also have some issues I am still trying to work out with my sling. For the most part I can get him in and tight enough but all the videos show the edge of the fabric should be on either edge of the ring so you can tighten them separately. Mine always get twisted too. I have tried to fan them out like all the videos show but I'm not having much luck. I have had the most luck following this video for threading http://www.granolababies.com/nurturebabynaturally/2010/02/how-to-thread-a-ring-sling/  I hope that helps some. And as for getting the top rail tight enough are you pulling it out and across your body? That may be a dumb question but as a newbie to ring slings I just figured out that is how you are suppose to tighten that one. And mine has a pleated shoulder so it sits on my shoulder like a capped sleeve so I don't have any advice about keeping it off your neck.

AFM tonight has been so frustrating!! DH left for work at 4:45 and I was feeding Jude. When he was finished I changed him and then he started acting like he wanted to eat again so I fed him some more. He eventually started unlatching himself and fussing. He did this several times till I finally stopped nursing and put him in his swing. He was still fussy and making feeding cues so I tried to nurse again. Same thing would suck for a minute pop off and cry. So I then put him in my ring sling and he usually passes right out, but he was still fussing and crying and making feeding cues. He nursed on and off like this till around 8:45 when I finally put him in the car and went for a drive. I don't understand why he was doing this. It kind of reminded me of cluster feeding but was instead non stop.. And by the end of the whole ordeal I seriously don't even think he was getting anything. I don't know if he was just fussy or what? Are you ladies experiencing anything like this?

Oh yes ;) It's been fun. He signals want of boob and then throws screaming, pinching, hitting, kicking fits when I put one in his mouth. And I just wait and pet his head until he suddenly goes "Oh!" and nurses. And he takes breaks to makes sure I know he's unhappy and yells... and then nurses. He wants to be on me constantly and if he's not sleeping, he sure as hell better be eating or heads will roll.

He yells more about dirty diapers, too. So if he's just woken up, he gets changed and then any fussing after that gets first boob and then a try with daddy of walking around and burping and then boob again and he usually settles for that then and passes out again. He can't sleep without a boob, either. Even if he's nursed for a long time, fallen asleep and woken up 2 minutes later... he must nurse right away or he'll Certainly Die.

The wrapping/jostling/shushing noises from Happiest Baby on the Block help. Standing helps. Talking quietly and asking what he needs can help. Even sweetly repeating "What is your major malfunction" isn't bad as he doesn't yet know English.. ;)

I wish you joy with this phase and hope we all move out of it soon!

I have been having this same problem.  My friend who is an LC said that maybe he has already gotten all the milk he wants, and is mad that his "pacifier" keeps spurting out milk!

I'm also having trouble with my ring sling. These videos have helped a little. But I've found I can only wear it with the cap sleeve part by my neck in order to distribute the weight to my shoulder, which means only wearing it on one side.  I'm hoping the ladies at my LLL meeting can help me when I see them on Wed.

I adore my ring sling and that is all I've been using so far with this baby. I usually switch back and forth between my moby and ring sling with a newborn but the moby and this heat, um no. Anyway, the ring sling is a learned art and maybe an acquired taste, people seemeither love them or hate them. I wear mine all over town and I get tons of comments form other moms about how they could never get theirs on right and hated it. I live in a huge baby wearing town. I really like them for the newborn phase and then when baby is old enough to do a hip carry, I don't use them in the between stage of when baby is no longer content to be stuck in there like a little burrito! I go to my ergo then.

You should be able to pull on sections of the fabric by the ring to tighten various parts of the sling. My trick is to put the ring behind my shoulder, tuck baby in and then tighten and then the ring will be near where I want it to be and then I just tighten the sections where I need to. Some fabrics loosen easily in the ring and can be a huge PIA. I have a guazy type ring sling that I loathe because it loosens and I am constantly readjusting, my other one has a more heavy duty fabric and I rarely have to readjust. I must of had my sling on for 10 something hours today because he refused to let me set him down for a single second without wailing his head off. eyesroll.gif

aha - so we are not alone on this one? we have been calling it her "in between stage" where she is tired and needs to sleep but wants to stay on the boob. now that would be fine if she was not doing the on-off-on-off thing. Sometimes DH will take her and bounce w her on the yoga ball and she will commit to either nursing more or sleeping. Sometimes, I will get up, dance around and bounce her a little and she will pick the next move.  It feels like, if she is on me and not sleeping she will keep boping her head as if she is doing the breast crawl regardless of her hunger state.

to add to this fun, now she is having issues tooting...she has to work on each gas passing and it seemingly is a dramatic event each time. Really funny to watch once I figure out what is going on. Baby sleeping, wakes up with a loud loud angry yelling, for 10 seconds and a big loud toot and she falls back a sleep as if nothing happened (meanwhile we have little heart attacks thinking she is hurt). When this happens every 10 secs for and hour, than everyone gets really tired.

do you think I am doing something wrong here?? This gas issue started last two days and it goes on forever in the mornings when she is first waking up. I tired burping very often during last night's feedings no avail. Should I cut my 1 cup of coffee in the mornings? Can i be eating something causing this? Can the issue w her not being able to handle her gas peacefully be pointing to flora issues or potentially beginning of thrush?

any recommendations?

So, baths!

I'm having Charlie join me in my baths. He gets a soak and a bit of a scrub with a wash cloth and I'm calling it good.

My mother says I should use soap. I can't think of a reason why, though. On myself I only use soap on "stinky" parts and he doesn't have any.

Plus, most moms I've known and admired only use soap when the kid is really dirty - not something that happens to infants, really.

Opinions?

She cuddled him up and sniffed him like mad today and declared that he smelled freshly bathed, so obviously he smells good :P

Anika does this too when she's over-tired. I have to hand her to DH because I swear she smells milk on me and wants to comfort nurse but there's nothing left.

This sounds like Anika during one of her growth spurts. I let her nurse as much as I can stand because it's signaling my boobs to up production, but it's exhausting! She did this for almost 24 hours at 6 weeks. During that time she dramatically outgrew several outfits and then soon after gained 4-5 ounces in one day.

Beckily, baths here are traumatic. She screams at the top of her lungs until she is dry, clothed, and snuggled. We don't always use soap. I agree: she's not super stinky. Anybody else have trouble with baths, though? Any tips?

Also, we finally made the leap to cloth diapers and it's exciting and going pretty well. Her diaper rash seems to have cleared right up. But she seems to really enjoy the feel of pooping in a fresh, soft new cloth. It seems not to matter how long I bicycle her legs with the diaper open, I always seem to catch the rest of the poop in the new dipe. I even try to tuck a clean part of the old dipe under her tush, which worked a bit. But even so, sometimes I'll go through 2-3 before she's empty, and meanwhile she's screaming for me to finish up already. Any empathy or advice there? love.gif

I'll try this next time I put the sling on. Thanks for the idea!

OOoh thanks for this!!  I am pulling it out.  Yesterday too I tried lifting Finn with a hand under his tush to get more slack in the line, and that really helped.  But, the rings ended up too close to his face and again, was cutting into my neck.  Practice makes perfect, I guess!

Thanks for this tip!!  The videos all have the rings starting right at the shoulder, this is the problem I think.  My fabric feels like thick canvas.  It's so twisted in the rings it's tricky to loosen it from there!!  Argh.  Thanks again I'll give this a try today.

Becky we don't use soap either, just water!

Tear, so funny, Finn will ALWAYS poop in a clean dipe.  It's maddening, but as my BIL  says, who wants to shit in a dirty toilet??lol.gif  What dipes are you using?  I switched to cloth during the daytime last week, and I am really loving the BG 4.0 OSes I got.  The fit nice and so far no problems at all!!  I love how they look too, they're pretty trim.  Finn never fit in his nb cloth dipes, so I have a bunch of never used covers and a whole pack of unopened (unprepped) prefolds.  I might try selling them.  I wish I hadn't bought them and had just bought more OSes.  Sigh.

Yup! Malcolm loves pooping in clean, dry cloth. Makes me glad we're using cloth, or we'd be going through so many disposables! I've got no advice, but we have the exact same situation.

And as for the nursing, crying, nursing dance, Mal does a bit of that, too. He gives the hungry cues, then latches on and gets spitting mad when the milk lets down. It does not make my breasts happy.

What are the mamas with thrush doing to get rid of it? We've got it, too and I'm getting the deep, shooting pain in my nipples. I can't tell if he's having any discomfort, I'm starting to think he is. My midwife recommended probiotics for both of us, but we can't honestly afford them right now, and I'm not really in a "See if this helps" place with the thrush, I'd much rather take care of it for sure. I used Gentian Violet when DD and I had it, but I'm not sure where to buy it.

What are mamas with older kids doing to interact and engage with them? I have been doing some reading and drawing with DD, and she loves helping with chores around the house, although I'm not doing much of that, but I just feel like she's kind of been left in the dust right now. DF is spending so much time doing fun stuff with her, which I'm so thankful for and is extremely sexy love.gif, but I still feel bad that I'm not really engaging with her a whole lot. We are only 1 week 4 days postpartum, but still.

Thanks everyone for the advice on nursing. I nurse him whenever he wants and I figure its either a growth spurt or he is just wanting to use me as a pacifier and gets angry when the milk comes out! Either way is fine with me. It can just get exhausting at times.

I hope everyone is figuring their ring slings out. I love the tip on starting the rings out behind the shoulder because mine do always end up way too low!

Also another mama not using soap. I did occasionally the first few times but then I just felt like it was unnecessary. I mean how dirty can he really be? Well besides being covered in my breast milk.. lol

And we go through so many cloth diapers because he also loves to poop in the clean one. It frustrates DH so bad, I just think its funny. I LOVE cloth and have used it since the beginning. Although I bought some xs fuzzibunz and we have never been able to use them. They just always leak and I don't know why. I really like the soft bums though. We were using the NB inserts but hes big enough to use the regular ones now and they are so absorbent. I had bought some ragababe diapers and was so excited about them because everyone raves over them. I HATE my ragababe diapers and I am so mad I spent that money because they are so much more expensive than other diapers. Prefolds worked better than them.

I have slowly been buying OS for as he grows and every kind I have bought I love. I am about to purchase some BG 4.0 so I am glad to hear you like them Carrie.

Hope everyone has a lovely day! It is 60 degrees here today and I am loving it! Fall is the best in my opinion and this summer was HORRIBLE!! I am glad to see it going!
