Bleeding a little after a pap smear while pregnant is to be expected since the cervix is so "juicy" with the extra blood supply in pregnancy.
Â
I usually wait until after 12 weeks to do a Pap--not because there is any danger before 12 weeks but because over 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and I don't want a woman blaming a miscarriage on a pap.
Â
Often--the only time women GET Pap smears is when they are pregnant--so it is recommended, and your wife should not have any problems as a result. The pap does not go anywhere near the baby--I often tell patients that it is like brushing your teeth, and your gums bleed---it is not your brain bleeding. Hope this helps!

Good luck!
