Best way to re-sell artwork?

I am not an artist but was hoping someone who is could help with my question...

What is the best way to re-sell artwork?  Is there a reputable online site?  Should we go to a dealer?  We purchased a painting twenty years ago and are hoping to sell it.  (We want to use the $$ to purchase something from another artist.)  I realize it might not be possible to get back what we paid but I thought it might be worth a try.

I’ve searched for the artist online and see a few of his paintings for sale in a gallery in Naples, FL and found a couple paintings on art auction websites.  We live in the Midwest; the artist is Spanish, his paintings have Spanish influence, and he lives/lived in Florida...would we be better off selling through someone down there?

You should research your target audience first. Then, create reproductions or prints of your work. That way, if you sell your original, you'll have copies to sell. Remember, once your original is gone, it's gone. So I suggest you do this. Once you have research your audience, created art, prints, and framed your work you can start selling your work. Some places to sell your work are on Ebay, art shows, your own website, and Youtube. Your art is the reflection of you so make it good when you go to sell it. Good luck.
