Totally messed up my knee.. now what?

Over a month ago I went on a hike and totally screwed up my knee. It hurt really bad that day, but gradually got better. Now in the last 24 hours it has hurt so bad I've started crying (and I'm no wimp.. I've basically been through some of the most painful conditions, migraines, kidney stones, gall bladder attacks.. lol) But really, what will they be able to do while I'm pregnant? Can they do a scan of any type? I don't want to be a whiner, but it HURTS.

They can do an mri if they really need to, but they may be able to see something on ultrasound if their is soft tissue damage. Some physical therapy might help, especially if you're compensating already because of a pregnant belly.

ty some arnica or ruta....both homeopathic remedies

Do you see a chiropractor? When my knees hurt my chiro will use the actuator on my knees, and sometimes the TENS unit if that doesn't help enough.

I'll second the chiropractor. I never knew mine did knees until recently and I've been suffering with on/off knee issues for years. With one adjustment, my knee feels better instantly!

I swear by my chiropractor, as well. Getting adjusted when you're pregnant can really help, especially in the last half when you're off balance and compensating.

Happens to me all the time, especially in pregnancy.  If there was no actual event, e.g. a fall, etc. I wouldn't worry too much.  Chances are your looser ligaments could be decreasing the stability in your knee making it more prone to being pulled a little out of alignment.  A chiropractor would be my second choice over a good physiotherapist (physio tx often takes longer to show improvement b/c they get to the underlying cause which is typically a postural and muscle imbalance that has developed slowly over time.....so it only makes sense that the solution would be slower too).  A good chiropractor would give you stretches and strengthening exercises also - if they only want to manipulate and bring you back for multiple manipulation visits, then I'd find another one.   Also, I wouldn't advise any high speed, sudden manips in pregnancy b/c your ligaments are already so loose.  I had a bad experience with a chiropractor post partum who actually made my SI joints worse (tried to loosen them more when what they needed was stability)...and it was fixed within 3 weeks by a combo of massage and physio exercises/stretches.
