New Zealand sourced fish oil caps, are they safer?

Hi everyone!

I'm a mother of a six year old boy and an eight year old girl. Planning to give them fish oil supplements but I'm still in the process of "fishing" for the best and safest kind of fish oil capsules. I heard that it's not safe to just pop fish oil pills because most of the fishy these days come from contaminated water by toxic chemicals. I've read that there have been claims that fish oil caps from New Zealand are the purest and safest kind. Anybody can attest to that?  So far I'm eying Maxalife fish oil supplements but I'm still open to suggestions or comments.

Help? The safety of my children is my topmost priority. :)

Well, it is a very complicated question. The first issue, for me, is sustainability. Most fish oil is anchovy and sardine, and 100% of anchovy and sardine for fish oil comes from industrial fish farming in Peru. The oil is actually a byproduct of the fishmeal industry. Environmentally, horrible. There is a youtube video called The Greed of Feed if you want to know more.

The only real sustainable fish, according to the Marine Stewdadship council is wild Alaskan salmon. So we take Alaskan salmon oil capsules. We also like the unrefined oil, that is closest to eating real fish, as opposed to the highly refined to bump up the DHA content kind. We take a product called Wholemega. Now, as to whether or not it will stay a clean source of fish, since the melt down in Japan, remains to be seen. Alaska only fishes for Salmon for two months a year, June and July. So far this years stock has no radioactive material.
