how long after tongue tie laser procedure until baby can stick tongue out?

nak my son had a posterior tie lasered last tuesday, I am trying with my finger to get him to extend his tongue with no luck at all he cannot even create suction on my finger and is quite frustrated each time I try. I have been stretching the area to prevent it from reattaching and he does have slightly more mobility but seriously still looks kind of tied to me. I was reassured by the dentists office that it is likely just swelling under his tongue but I'm not so sure....if you had a posterior tie cut/lasered how long before you saw tongue extension? Breastfeeding is going ok (some soreness on left side) and I am going to get him in to the chiro this week. Am I expecting too much too soon? tia

I would make sure they clipped it enough. DS1's PTT was clipped at three weeks and I realize in retrospect - from photos with a clear tongue cleft - that it may not have been done thoroughly enough and that may be why I didn't notice any improvement (the ped said if that was the problem it would be better right away although the LC counselled suck training). Do you still feel the tie when you sweep a finger under his tongue?

thanks megan, they definately got the little wirey attached piece of frenulum I suspect there is more under there though. (sigh) when I feel it it feels different than before it's hard to explain. The dentist is 5 hours away . I guess he may eventually need a 2nd procedure. I am going to try cst first and see what we can do there. He is also creating a lot of suction on my finger now I think I was just doing it too close to feeding time before. He is cupping it around my finger well but still not extending it. He breaks suction really easily.

My ds was clipped at 1 mth old and again yesterday, at 6 mths old. After the first clip, he actually still couldn't nurse well.  It took until he was 2 1/2 mths old (after cranial-sacral therapy and I think, just growing--he also had a high palate that made it hard for him to compress my nipple enough) to latch on and actually transfer milk.  Then, I noticed that he still had quite a thick band under his tongue--it wasn't really visible, but you could feel a band of fiber if you felt under the tongue. He had other signs, too: not sticking his tongue out much or often, and when he did push his tongue out, the center of his tongue depressed, like the frenulum was straining as he stuck his tongue out.  He's doing SO much better in just one day since we had it re-lasered, though.  The slight pain I used to feel in one of my nipples (considerably flatter than my other one) is gone, and I can just see that his tongue has more mobility in all directions than previously.

So, I guess I would say you may need to go for a re-clip, but they may not be able to do it until he heals from this procedure and they can feel it.  I do think that CST helped to fix his palate. That high, arched palate is a common problem with tongue-tie babies so it could be an issue for your baby, too.
