Upper Midwest mamas?

Thread Starter

Hey, all!

I've noticed that there seem to be a ton of us from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota! I thought we could do a little localized check-in and see if any of us live super close by or have OB/midwife/hospital/etc. recommendations you want to share...

I'm Kate and I live in West Saint Paul, MN. DH grew up in Afton and I moved up here to be with him after we graduated from college in 2000. We have a ton of family in the Twin Cities. Our daughter, Ren, was born at Woodwinds in 2008 after I developed pre-eclampsia. We're trying again for a homebirth this time around; our midwife is Rachel Knudson and I LOVE her! She lives near Albert Lea but takes clients as far north as the Twin Cities (she'll take clients up to about 1.5 hours from her farm). I'm also training to be a doula, and I've attended births at Woodwinds, Regions and Albert Lea Medical Center.

It's nice to have so many of us up here!

Hi everyone,

I'm Sarah and I live in SW Minnesota in a teeeeeny tiny town.  We are about 45 minutes from Sioux Falls, SD.

I am originally from Washington, Iowa and moved to Minnesota about a year ago.

My first child was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa at a hospital with an OB (one of the worst experiences of my life)  My ds was born in Sioux Falls at Sanford Hospital with their CNM's.  I cannot express how wonderful these 4 women are - I was absolutely astounded at the difference in care from my first child to my second. At Sanford they offer a great program called "Centering" it's a group of women all within the same due date month.  We get together and do our prenatals as a group.  We discuss various topics and concerns.  I have made life long friends with this program and I cannot wait to do it all over again!

I have contemplated a homebirth with this next child but unfortunately have not heard good things about the CPM in our area.

lilkat, I wish we just a little bit closer!

I'm in a northern suburb of St. Paul. I have hospital births and will deliver at St. Johns in Maplewood. I had a great experience with my last baby and felt my dr did a great job although she barely made it.

Sarah, I'm originally from Brookings, SD. What town do you live in?

I'm in Madison, WI and met one of my closest mommy friends here on MDC in the Nov 2009 DDC.  I hope I find another Madison mama here!!!

My last birth was at Meriter Hospital in Madison with the UW-Health Midwives.  Loved them, but I ended up with a c-section (a story of its own!) and now I am doomed to the UW Health OBGYNs.  I am VERY much hoping for a VBAC this time.  I have new insurance this time, too, so will have to deliver at the other hospital that delivers babies here - St. Mary's (which happens to be the one *I* was born in).  I am hiring a doula FOR SURE and making my VBAC needs clearly known from the get-go.

Anyone else in WI!??  Dane County?

We are in Pipestone!  I love Brookings!  Have you been to The Children's Museum since they've opened? It's awesome!

I have not, but my kids went and loved it. My dh is from Flandreau. Most of our family is still in the area. One of our friends lives in Pipestone and has 2 boys. I think they are 5 and 3. Such a small world!

I'm just south of Madison. I had a VBA2C in 2010 at Meriter with Dr. Siitari who is a UW Ob/Gyn - she was fabulous. Dr. Bills (also great) actually did the birth, but Dr. Siitari convinced most of the other ob's to let me go ahead & try.... just thought you'd be interested in the info.  :0)  Honestly, I wish I could go back to either of them for my current pregnancy but my insurance changed :(.

Hi ladies,

I'm sneaking over from the April DDC, but wanted to add to this thread because I'm in a northwest suburb of the Twin Cities. I've had babies at United, Woodwinds, and 2 at home. This will be our 3rd homebirth with the same midwife.  Just wanted to say hey!  tiphat.gif

Our closest I94 exit is Osseo!!

We pass by Osseo every time we go to DH's grandparents (north of the Twin Cities in MN).  And of course, we finally did try the Norske Nook.  LOL

Gwenillian - in Rock or Dane or Green counties??  Or?
