Choosing a Homebirth Midwife and Backup in Atlanta, GA

Thread Starter

In about two weeks we'll be transferred from our Reproductive Endocrinologist team to regular midwife/OB care, so I need to get a care plan in place.  I am hoping for a homebirth and have seen several good recommendations for midwives in earlier threads, but I'm wondering if any of these midwives come with their own OB backup.  I have a few friends who have had trouble finding backups or who have had to lie to their OB/CNMs about planning a homebirth in GA, and I'm not willing to lie to my practitioner about our birth plan.

That said, several women in my family have had complicated pregnancies and very preterm labor, and I want to have back up plan that I'm comfortable with in case I need to be transferred.  We live in Dekalb County.  Someone on the east side would be best, but we're willing to travel a reasonable distance if necessary.

Alternatively, what about intown (or very close) OBs who will take me as a patient while knowing that we are planning a homebirth?  DP and I have both been patients of Andrew Dott for years and like him very much, but I don't think he is currently willing to serve as homebirth backup.

Thanks for your help!
