Hi. This is going to be long, so I hope you'll be patient with me. (My DD's 21 months old now, to give you a frame of reference.)
Â
A few months ago, DD got a diaper rash that looked like blisters. We put rash cream on it, and it would go away almost all the way but come back. We went to the Ped, and she prescribed a cream for yeast (an anti-fungal). That did the same thing. The rash would almost go away completely, come back, etc. We waited a couple of weeks before going back to the Ped to get more cream, which continued to do the same thing. We had an appointment a week or so after the second round of anti-fungal, and saw a different Ped, who said it was a bacterial infection related to teething (excess saliva affecting pH of the urine as well as bile digestion which led to the infection). He prescribed an antibacterial cream, silver sulfadiazine. The rash is getting better after 4 days of using the cream (even though he had said it should be better by the end of the weekend), but some things got me thinking, wondering, worrying.
Â
Thing 1: If the rash was supposed to be better after 2 days, why is it still hanging around after 4? Should I give the cream more time?
Â
Thing 2: It looks like DD's starting to grow little hairs on her butt, not everywhere I've been putting the cream, just a little bit of fuzz close to her anus. Is that from the cream or...WTF?
Â
Thing 3: I've been consulting Dr. Google (I know, not that great when I should just talk to the Ped again, but I figured why not, right?), and looking up rashes that look like her rash. It doesn't look like your normal rash (red blistering, but not really red otherwise like your typical diaper rash) and it doesn't look like yeast. Doing a google image search, it kind of looked to me like dermatitis herpetiformis. I'm wondering how to bring this up with the Ped without them discounting what I say as "crazy internet search paranoia" or if anyone's had experience with this type of rash as a diaper rash.Â
Â
I called the Ped when I noticed the butt fuzz, but no one was in the office so I'll call again, but I figured I'd ask the crunchy mama hivemind. Thanks in advance for any help.
Jess
