I want to birth naturally and do not feel a hospital birth is right for me.  This is my first pregnancy.  I am having trouble finding a birth center in my area.  I am looking for information/reviews of midwives and birth centers in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Thank you for any helpful information!!

Hi Larell!  Congratulations on your pregnancy!

There currently aren't any birth centers in NEPA.  This is really disappointing since it leaves families in our area having to choose between very medically, intervention heavy hospitals and homebirth.

The hospital's that have L&D units are: Moses Taylor, Wayne Memorial and Geisinger.

There are CNM's at Wayne Memorial.  This is sometimes a happy medium for some families, but the CNM's must follow hospital protocol.

There are three homebirth midwives in NEPA.

  • I am a senior apprentice with Jennifer McFarland of My Birth by Design.
  • I have begun accepting solo clients in my practice, Sudharma Birth Services
  • There is another midwife that works in the Northern Tier of Pa.  I don't want to put her contact information in the post because I'm not sure that she is comfortable with that.  If you PM me I can give you her name and number as well.
