Potty Learning (or whatever its called) 16 month old

My 16 month old is taking her diaper off every single time she uses it. She refuses to wear it even for a minute. If she has peed or pooped in it and she has bloomers or pants on, she will come stand by me and scream and pull at them.

I think she is ready to be out of diapers. I have one of those bamboo toilet seat things that is for toddlers, but shes only used it a couple of times. I am thinking I need to buy a baby potty and Im looking for suggestions.

Thanks smile.gif

I like the standard sized bjorn but for a small kid, the Little Potty might be a good choice. At 16m if fit my LO better and now we keep it in the car. (Car potty is awesome.) I also really like Diaper Free Before 3, great practical advice at this age.

Taking a diaper off is not the same as knowing before you have to go. My grandson did the same thing and he is still in diapers at almost 3. He practically changes himself but he still doesn't know before he has to go.

I agree, taking off diaper isn't the same as knowing you need to go beforehand.

That said, the bjorn little potty is what I use/used for my kids.

My dd wakes dry, so I have her sit on the potty and play with toys till she goes. Only once now at 18m has she purposely sat on the potty and went. As I get ready in the morning and at night I let dd run around without a diaper in the bathroom.

I have a seat that goes on top of the toilet in the downstairs bath. Dd will go to the bathroom and put it on the seat, but only after using her diaper

My daughter is 16 months old and started using the potty the last couple weeks.  She is also getting mad at having a wet and dirty diaper.  And she pees on the potty 3-4 times a day.  Most times I initiate taking her, but sometimes she will tell me she wants to use the potty.  We just have a basic potty chair with a lid, from Target or some other box store.  We also have a Baby Bjorn Little Potty, but she much prefers the kind with a lid that she can open and close.  There is no way I'd be putting her on a toilet with a seat right now, she is way too tiny.  Plus, I can just see her trying to get on the toilet by herself and falling in.

Both my boys potty trained before 2. We used the Baby Bjorn little potty too. If you're okay with having pee/poop on the floor (we have hardwood so it's not anything a prefold and clorox wipe can't handle) the easiest way to do it is to keep her naked (or in a dress with no diaper) at home, and put her on the potty regularly. Praise her successes and "uh oh, pee/poop goes in the potty" her misses.

Thanks for all the responses!

She has been naked a lot this summer, partially because its so hot, but I can usually catch the poops because she squats and starts grunting. The pees happen anywhere, anytime. Standing or squatting. I think she is ready to poop in the potty, but maybe not pee. If she only had pee diapers, my life would be sooo much easier smile.gif

I guess Ill get a baby bjorn potty and put it in the living room (we have all hardwood too) and try to keep her naked a lot.

Thanks everyone!
