Hi, I am really interested in getting a job at some point where I can help pregnant or new moms to learn about breastfeeding and AP. How do I get started as a lactation consultant or teach about AP? I am very passionate about these things and would love to have a career with them...anyone else doing these things or thinking about them? Thanks :)
How do I become a lactation consutant or AP educator?
On IBCLC's website, they have the different pathways listed on how you can qualify. The hours of breastfeeding support are usually the hardest to come by unless you have a job that allows you to easily get them. Options could be becoming a breastfeeding counselor, if you were ever on WIC then some clinics train you to become a bfing counselor for WIC. I'm not sure about an AP educator. As an IBCLC who works in a non-hopsital setting, and therefore has more time to spend with my moms, I "dispense" a lot of AP info.
