What happens at your first midwife appt?

I have my first appointment with our potential midwife on Tuesday, when I will be about 7.5 weeks. What should I expect to take place? She said it was mostly a "getting to know each other" meeting, but I'm curious if any sort of exam will be done, or what.

I'm also trying to think of a list of questions to take for her, mostly about how many births she's done, how many emergencies she's had, any fatalities that have occurred, how to handle emergency transport, etc. Can you ladies think of anything else I should ask?

For the record, this is my third pregnancy -- I birthed my son at home in 2005 and had a m/c at 6 weeks in 2009.

All midwives are different, but here's my experience:

Our first visit really WAS just getting to know each other.  We talked a lot about nutrition, if I remember.  They weighed me, made sure I was taking a prenatal vitamin, and I think did a urine test.  They may have palpatated my abdomen, but maybe not as I'm not sure there is much to feel that early on.  There was no internal exam, for sure.  (Actually, the first internal exam I ever had was well into active labor.)  But I would say of the hour we spent 45 minutes just talking and then 15 minutes doing any sort of exam part.

You might want to ask what happens if you go into labor at the same time as another client.

My MW went over a lot of things about good nutrition at the first visit, did urine test, took BP reading, and I think thats about it, other than just talking to eachother, asking questions, addressing concerns, etc.
