Implantation bleeding?

My fiance and I have been trying to get pregnant.

This would be my first pregnancy so I'm not all sure what exactly is normal.

I started bleeding this morning, and it's at least a week and a half early from my expected period so I'm a little bit confused. It's also been around 9 days since ovulation.

Could this be implantation bleeding or am I just being hopeful?

How much blood are you seeing?  Spotting when you wipe?  Enough to need a pantyliner or a pad?

It's like a period. It was a lot heavier this morning but now it's lighter...almost like it is when my period is ending.

Do you chart or track your fertile signs at all?  What are you basing your ovulation date on?

Implantation bleeding, also called implantation spotting, does not look like a regular menstrual period. Implantation bleeding is scanty and usually pink or brownish discharge. (more info: http://www.justmommies.com/articles/implantation-bleeding.shtml)

That being said, my sister thought she was starting AF and had a few days of spotting/light flow and wound up pregnant with my now five-year-old niece!

Welcome to MDC!

How did you confirm ovulation?  Do you chart?  If so, can you post your chart using a free site like www.fertilityfriend.com?  Implantation normally occurs between 8 and 10 DPO so you could be experiencing bleeding from implantation.  However, implantation bleeding is really not common.  I believe that many women think they had implantation spotting b/c it is such a common term on forums like this.  And because of this there is a lot of variation when describing what implantation spotting looks like.  But what is more likely than implantation spotting is spotting/bleeding from hormonal fluctuations during a normal cycle or during pregnancy.

How long is your average luteal phase?  If you're 9 DPO and you're saying this bleeding is 10 days early, that would give you a 19 day LP... not likely.  It would appear that ovulation occured earlier than usual so I am wondering if you are in fact 9 DPO or if you are more than that.  A chart would help!  :)  Bleeding around the time of expected AF is probably the most common cause of bleeding during pregnancy.  Or this could be the start of AF. Some women get accurate results on HPT's at 8 or 9 DPO, but most need to wait until around 12-14 DPO.   If you are farther than 9 DPO you could get an accurate result now.  You can get dollar store tests, which only require an hCG level of 25 and give it go over the next few days and see what you get!  Keep us posted!

I used an online ovulation calendar.

I feel kind of silly and probably should have gone to the doctor to get a better idea about it.

No need to feel silly.  Our bodies can be pretty wacky sometimes!  If the bleeding stops you may want to pick up a HPT.  And if you didn't conceive this cycle, I would strongly recommend charting to get a better idea of what your cycles are like.  I've been charting on FertilityFriend.com since 2004.  The site is really easy to navigate and they have a free charting course to help you understand/get the most out of charting and taking charge of your fertility.

Best of luck, and keep us posted!! :D

No need to feel silly!  A lot of women don't realize that their cycles can vary quite a bit and don't know about charting.  But this is a great place to discover all this, which will be quite helpful in your TTC journey.  If you'd like help getting going with charting, you can read this post that I wrote for another member who was just getting started: http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/1324006/bfn/0_100#post_16594083.

Has the bleeding increased to full red flow?  Or is it stopping?

It sounds like it could definitely be implantation bleeding! Although it shouldn't be that heavy if it's implantation bleeding. It's actually more like implantation spotting! Baby dust to you! :)
