Glasses

Thread Starter

I also posted this in "Toddlers" but I'm hoping to get more replies here, from people who had toddlers :)

I think my almost-2-y/o might need glasses. She started closing one eye when looking in a certain direction and she rubs that eye frequently. These were the symptoms my ds had before he got his glasses at 5 y/o. I was hoping that dd wouldn't have vision problems, until she was out of the toddler years at least...

I don't want to take her for a check-up. I don't want to find out.

But I probably will.

If it turns out to be strabismus (like her brother), do you know if it's damaging to her not to wear glasses (at least for another year)?

I will take my doctor's advice of course, but I'd really appreciate if you could share your stories about your kids wearing (or not wearing) glasses.

Thanks!

My DD just turned 4 and just got glasses.  She probably should have gotten them sooner, but we didn't know.  We noticed that one of her eyes would get a little wiggly when she was looking down so we mentioned it to her Dr, who sent us to a pediatric opthamologist for a thorough evaluation (actually 2 of them--we saw both lead docs in the practice since she had some odd stuff going on and they wanted to confirm it all before moving forward).  Turns out her eyesight was pretty bad and that the eyes were really unbalanced.  I asked about whether to do glasses now or wait and they told us that if we wait, we will almost definitely have to do patching on an eye in order to prevent it from becoming a lazy eye but if we started with the glasses now, we might not have to patch (we go for a follow-up later in the year).  We put her in glasses just over a week ago and it has been GREAT!  She hasn't fussed once about them and talks all the time about how much easier it is for her to see everything.  We had no idea what a difference it would make to her since she never complained about her eyesight before.  In any event, find a good doc that you trust and see what they say.  Best of luck!
