22 month old, nursing and cavities

Not sure where to post. DD is 22 months old, she isn't the most coordinated child you will meet. Her teeth chip easily! She has/had cavities, filled and pulled and capped this week. Docs rec. fluoride, brush, limit meal times...don't graze. OH and BF was blamed. Now I just think there is more to it than that. There is a reason why her teeth rotted out and BM isn't it. I brush her teeth regularly. The dentist was surprised by the amount of tarter build up. What can be done? help me fix this!

I think that you should not share food at all, since decay is caused by bacteria.  And keep her tooth brush clean/ free from bacteria (clean it regularly with hot water, or even dip it in peroxide and rinse it with water).

Grains and things like crackers, etc. grain with baking soda cause more decay then sugar, so I don't think the BM is to blame.  Stick to things like fruit, veggies, and avoid grains.  If you do eat grains, brush after every time.

From what I've been reading lately bm/ night nursing is often blamed but it seems to have more to do with not brushing after solids especially before bed, nutrition, & just some kids being more likely to have problems. Personally I hadn't realized & was never told how important my pregnancy nutrition was to infant teeth so I'm a little worried myself. check out the dental forum in the health section. Tons of good info there. We have started using a tooth builder toothpaste for ds just in case, & I'm taking high vitamin fish oil.
