I havent been on much lately cause it is harvest season for us but now I've got lots of time to update. I went to the labor and delivery in my hometown because I was having contractions every 5 minutes. By the time they got me hooked up to the monitors, the contractions were coming every 2 to 3 minutes. They started me on procardia but couldn´t get the contractions to stop so they gave me a steroid shot for the babies lungs and transfered me to the nearest hospital with a level III NICU. By the time I got here, the contractions had gone to 10 minutes apart. This was Friday so now on Sunday, still on the procardia and got the second steroid shot. No contractions. Yeah!!! No dilation. Yeah!! But, cervix is soft and I'm starting to get a lot of blood tinged discharge.
The doctors and nurses keep saying the blood could be from the exams on Friday and Saturday morning or it could be my mucus plug. They are trying not to do an internal examine on me since I am not contracting anymore. I am here one more night for observation and if all is well, I can go home tomorrow.
My dilemma...I am 31 weeks. The MFM doc who is seeing me here at the hospital wants to talk to my midwife. He feels my care should be transfered to an MFM doc. His concern is the softening cervix and the contractions. He is affiliated with the hospital I am currently in and has said nothing negative to me about our homebirth plans. Everyone has been positive about it but hinting that this may not happen for me.
Right now I am so confused. I want baby to stay put but I have been having contraction issues since 20 weeks (this is one of the things the MFM is concerned about). Now with the discharge I am feeling at a loss as to what to do, stay with midwife, switch care. I know I am also out of my element in the hospital right now. My insurance will not pay both care providers so it is one or the other.
Anyone else experiencing preterm labor? Any comments are welcome right now as I try to gather my thoughts and figure out what to do. Thanks everyone.
