Yellow mucusy poop-- WWYD?

Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience... My son is 3 months old and EBF.  He has had mucus in his poop since about 1 month old.  It's very slimy but it's usually yellow in color, sometimes on the orange side.  One moment the poop can be awful, a few hours later it can look pretty normal, you never know what you're going to get. It doesn't seem to correlate at all with what I'm eating. I've been off ALL dairy (even hidden) for 7 weeks.  I've been off soy protein for 5 weeks.  There are no changes in the poop.  He shows no other signs at all of food allergies-- no rashes, not fussy, no spitting up... our pedi says that he's not concerned with mucus but that's not good enough for me.  Sometimes the poop is SO runny and mucusy, it's like a diaper filled with slime.

If it matters, he was tongue-tied and had that clipped almost 2 weeks ago.  He's still not nursing quite right but we're working on a better latch.

Thoughts?  Experiences?  I really appreciate any insight.

I had this issue with both my kids.  I asked my ped and doctor friend and they both said that this is normal.  Neither of my kids have allergies. I think it's just one of those things.  Gross, but normal.

OK, gross question - How does it smell?

It smells very sweet-- like cake batter or buttered popcorn.  If that makes sense :)  At one time it was very foul-smelling, not sure if that got better when I stopped eating dairy.

nak

for me, that "sweet" typical exclusively breastfed smell is really reassuring. if it smelled foul i'd be looking into causes, but if baby is happy and growing, i'd choose to ignore the texture/colour.

My DD's poops have been slimy and liquidy since birth.  She is healthy, thriving, growing with no issues.  I think there's a very wide range of normal EBF poop.

We had a similar poop issue crop up at 3 months.  I, too, initially thought it was an allergy issue and tried eliminating various foods to no avail.  The baby was still eating well, gaining weight, no rash or discomfort, etc.  My doctor also told me not to be concerned, but I wasn't convinced.  I posted over in the allergy forum and one of the mama's shared this link with me on oversupply - http://www.llli.org/faq/oversupply.html.  I wasn't sure at first, even though some of the signs were similar, but sure enough I block fed for about 2 weeks and no more yellow mucousy poop!
