Obviously this option isn't for everybody here, but preschools run out of churches tend to be screaming deals.  DD's charges $130 per month for 3 days/week.  We're not even part of that school's faith affiliation, but it's ecumenical and works for Christians of most denominations.

It's a shame that Montessori is now accessible only to the top-tier income levels (at least around here!)     On the other hand, while education is extremely important to me, I see her preschool experience as being mostly for socialization and emotional readiness for Kindergarten.

There are a few church-run preschools in the area ... but I must sound like a non-churchgoer over the phone, because not one of them returned any of my calls. 

They were much less expensive, you're right.

DD is getting ready to start preschool at a local church. We are paying $100 per month for M, W, and F from 9:00 - 11:30.

We're another family in the Northeast of the US.

DS goes to preschool at a local church and we pay about $800/month (paid yearly upfront) for 5 days a week for 4 hours a day. Eek!

The Montessori schools are much more expensive, about $12,000/yr for 10 months around here.

$340 a month seems like a bargain for a Montessori program.

I live in a low COL as far as housing goes (CNY), but the Montessori my child went to ran me 800/mth (5 full days a week. - that was 5 years ago, I cant imagine what it is now!).

Sounds like a great program. Hope the meeting was swell!

We are in a high col area and we pay $150 per month for two mornings of play based preschool in a church basement. It is a nice warm and fuzzy "old fashined" nursery school atmosphere.
