Pregnant with #2 and totally confused.

I guess I'm just looking for support and thoughts/experiences/ideas? My midwife put me at 16 wks last tuesday (8/9), we knew I was either 12 or 16 wks. She heard the heartbeat with the fetascope but couldn't get it with the doppler. She said that my fundus was in between where she expected me to be and determined that I may have a tilted uterus. Between that and our recent suspicions of twins, we thought an ultrasound was a good idea to verify dates and number of fetuses... I had the ultrasound on friday (8/12) and was not pleased with the overall experience. The tech spent all of 2-3 minutes total- as soon as she had a visual of a fetus, she determined just one and continued to measure from that angle, then measured the heartbeat and my ovaries before sending me on my way with a gestation of 9 1/2 wks. After arguing and fretting and on and on, I've decided that it's just not worth the stress of trying to get another ultrasound somewhere else, to just stick with the 12 wks gestation and carry on with my pregnancy. But, is it just me or does this sound all out of whack?

P.S. Coming to terms with the idea that I may have convinced myself of movement and whatnot is HARD. :P

All I can say is FRUSTRATING!  First I dislike the techs that do the u/s, not sure why they need to be such turds but they are.  Hopefully you get this figured out.  I'm in the same boat as you.  Am I 13 or 17 weeks?  I can feel baby move already so at this point I don't care.  If you think you felt baby move ... then, you probably did.

Some techs are great - others not so much. If I were you, I would stick with the lower gestation, I don't know how long you carried your first baby, but I went to almost 42 weeks (induction that led to c-section) with mine. with #2, they gave me a gestation a week less than what I knew, and I was ok with it because it kind of gives an extra week of wiggle room at the end. four weeks is a big difference, so if you continue to go by 12 weeks, at 40 weeks you might actually be 36, which if you actually were only 36 weeks, that means you might have another 4 weeks until your due date . . .

Can you get a second opinion? if not, I really would stick with the lower gestation.
