Tandem nursing, 3yo has cold sore

I'm not convinced that it's a cold sore, but DH is and has requested a ban on the 3yo nursing until his cold sore clears up.  This is to protect the 5mo.  As you might guess, the 3yo (who already seems to be nursing like a newborn again!) is not okay with this arrangement.  What do you think?  I have gone ahead and enforced the ban, which has led to screams when he is rebuked, but the screams were already a daily occurrence because I don't want him nursing every second my heiny is seated.

First, I would be sure to treat the cold sore with topical mama milk and ointment. Second, I would do what works for you nursing wise. If you want to clean your breast after your 3yo nurses or want to assign each chid seperate sides, those are options too. I never chose to not nurse one for fear of sharing germs, my kids seem to go out of their way to share every germ they can, and most of the time they don't have the superior qualities of bresdtmilk to off set them.

thank you otmama!  it looks like the alleged offender (cold sore) cleared up.  I went ahead and held the 3yo at bay all day (long day!!), but at night he got to nurse while we read.  thanks for the suggestions!
