Irate about doctor visit - need some advice

I am not going back to that doctor ever again. All in one visit he told me to

1.) Stop breastfeeding "to raise DD's iron levels" (she is 14 mos)

2.) That DD might have DIPTHERIA

3.) That it's not safe for me to drive at all due to me having narcolepsy, which is why again I need to stop breastfeeding.

4.) That he thinks I'm a procrastinator and that I need to get DD caught up on ALL her vaccinations (she hasn't had any)

5.) That he knows more about narcolepsy than I do, and I've had it all my life!!

6.) That I'm unreasonable for not wanting to vax DD and that he wants to call my exhusband (who I only see with a police officer present) and ask him what HE wants.

7.) That he hasn't even googled (though I asked him to) the words "narcolepsy" and "vaccinations". RECENT research is showing an epidemic of cases of narcolepsy in Scandinavia being triggered by the Pandremix H1N1 vaccine.

I knew this doc and I didn't see eye to eye, but we were in because DD is sick (and me too), and we just got on Medicaid, and our first new patient appt isn't until Oct. DD still has ins thru her dad, so I took her back to our old primary. We did go to urgent care last Friday, but I thought it just made sense to go see her doctor.

*sigh* What should have been a quick 15 min visit turned into an interrogation about my divorce, did I discuss vaxes w/my ex, etc. I told him I have emailed ex that we need to discuss it, and that with all the recent events, I would wait to do that until ex was out of state and a bit calmer. Right now he's doing everything in his power to make my life a living hell, and he would just have a hay day with this.

I finally got the doc to prescribe me some iron drops for DD. Not sure why he was so against that. She wouldn't eat the Flinstone ones, and I had tried to get drops initially, but he refused, and kept saying I needed to stop breastfeeding. My life is REALLY crazy right now, and we've been through so much stress, I'm just not quite ready, though I'd LOVE to be done with it. It's going to take a bit of strategy and a lot of energy, which I don't have due to all the stress and now being sick.

So we are sick. I established that. We've had runny noses and coughs for about a week now. It could be allergies to our new place...mold in the basement. That is supposed to get cleaned up but now just yesterday I got a sheriff's notice that this house is being sold at public auction in Oct...the managers say that's not going to happen...but that would explain why they're not taking very good care of this building...tarp on the roof and leaking ceilings, flooding basement, old toilets and ancient oven...hmm.

We did go to urgent care last week, and that doc gave us antibiotics - amoxycillan, which I didn't fill yet. She said wait 3 days and then take it.

Well, DD has some white spots/patches on the roof of her mouth in the back.

Her old doc said maybe it's thrush, so he treated us both. Today our cold symptoms have decreased noticeably. But thrush doesn't cause cold symptoms, does it? Or does it? I googled, but didn't find anything.

The doctor also wasn't going to treat me, as he said it would be nearly impossible for me to get it from her unless I ate food that had been in her mouth. Hasn't he ever seen parents eat with their toddler? Probably not, as he told me he doesn't even remember his son being this small.

So far DD has had 3 doses of the thrush medicine. If it is allergies to mold, would that help temporarily?

We'll probably go back to urgent care tmw or Friday if this doesn't clear up...I thought it might be strep, but the throat soreness is gone. I am really at a loss for figuring out what's going on. I hate taking antibiotics, esp broad spectrum. I was hoping the doc would have just done a strep test and given us more specific antibiotics. But now. It turned into a 2 hr debate in his office ending with him saying she might have diptheria and to bring her back Friday after I googled the gruesome symptoms and scared myself into vaxing her.

Do you need Rx Iron for your DD? wondered if she could do floradix or similiar  type supplement - it's a liquid. Also, has he actually tested her to know she needs iron, or assumes she does b/c she's breastfed?

I'd find a different doc, if at all possible.

Re: thrush/mold may want to try posting in the health and wellness section.

I have had a new doc appt lined up for her for a month now, but it's not until October because it's a new patient appt at the clinic...we're on Medicaid now.

I am absolutely flat broke and can't afford Floradix. I can't even go buy toilet paper right now, and money is about to get tighter with custody issues and legal fees, and now apparently my rental house is in foreclosure and is going to be sold unless the landlords figure out what happened and fix it but they are out of town. They've been making the payments, supposedly. Just having an all-around bad week.

The WIC office tested her iron, and it was at 9.5. I've got the Rx drops - insurance covers that for free, and she will actually let me give them to her.

Omg, hun, I've had my fair share of visits like that!  It usually ends with a CPS call and a certified letter firing me from the practice.  I don't have any advice for you, sorry, except to say that we have been using Floravital and it's great.

If you wouldn't mind sometime, I'd love to chat with you about narcolepsy (I saw that study, too, about vaxes and N...scary stuff!).  My son is being tested for it and his sleep doc thinks I have it, too.  I'd love to pick your brain, so if ever you have a moment, PM me.

Best wishes!

Oh wow, sure PM me your phone number and I'll call you sometime. There's a conference coming up in Oct you might want to go to.

Seriously? They'd call CPS on you? How did that work out? I've been wondering if they're going to do that. I mean...WThockeysticks. Just over iron, breastfeeding, etc? What is it they think I'm doing or thought you were doing that is so terrible? Sheesh!

Wow.  That is awful!  I'm so sorry.  Will Medicaid cover a Naturepath?  We have used a Naturepath exclusively for the past 7 or 8 years and she is totally onboard with extended breastfeeding, non-vaxxing, etc..  Good luck - I hope you find a health care provider with more sense and tact!

Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. The only bit of advice I have is this. When my DH and I were trying to get vaccinations for DSS (yes I know, opposite side), his bio mom didn't want him to have them. Unlike you ladies, she never did any research was just too lazy to go get them. DH wanted to do delayed vaccinations for DSS.  We were told that we could only get DSS vaccinated if BOTH parents agreed because if one didn't, it could be used against the other in court in some way. So regardless of your ex agreeing to it and the doctor calling him, NOTHING can be done without YOUR consent. And this is here in Kentucky, so I doubt it is too different in Indiana. Best of luck!

Sounds like you are having an awful time of it. Sounds like you have some kind of virus and bub might have thrush. But I am no doctor. I am still breastfeeding and it sounds like carrying on is the right thing to do for now cause weaning is really hard work. We are slowly getting there. That doc is rubbish but you already know that. I am in NZ so can't really relate to the U.S system but none of it sounds totally urgent. My rule of thumb is that if there is no fever then just to rest and try to take it easy. Breastfeeding will also help your baby stay hydrated and okay. If you are still sick in a couple of days maybe go to emergency care again?

Best wishes and I hope you have some good friends who can support you. Also hope your rental situation gets sorted so you don't have that stress as well

Thanks, ladies. The ex and I did discuss delayed vax back when he was pretending to be reconciled with me, and he was all for that idea after talking to his mom about it. That was last year. I think I'd be okay with that, as long as we are choosey about which vaccines. I just don't have the energy to put into researching which ones right now.
