I am very frustrated with hives that have been coming and going on my daughter for the past almost 3 weeks and cannot pinpoint a cause.Â
Â
Here are some of the background details:
Â
The days before we first noticed skin blotches for the first time, she had been ill with vomiting and diarrhea symptoms. We were outside getting pictures taken while she held a cupcake when we first noticed the blotches. The following day, I noticed again and continued to notice these blotches that would come and then disappear all in a matter of minutes, really. The blotches have progressed into actual hives with the raised white center and red circle, and they appear like mosquito bites and also like scratches on her face, arms, and at least once on her legs. For ten days I cut out dairy and wheat (foods recommended by my chiro to cut) in both of our diets as I am still nursing her. The hives did not worsen and actually seemed maybe a little better, but they were still there - coming and going with no rationale. She'd wake up from a nap with hives, eat and have hives, or just doing routine playing or riding in the car and have them. Â
Â
During the time cutting out wheat and dairy she came down with a cold. I know she's also been teething and trying to get in molars. Her bowels have also been very loose. I did take her to her doctor who said I just need to figure out the food allergy and thought 7 days was sufficient time to determine this, so he said it would not be dairy or wheat if she was still getting them. He also said it could be a virus and related to teething. I still stayed away from wheat and dairy for a few days more as I'd read that the milk proteins can remain in the system for a while despite my doctor's opinion. A few days later for only a day she had a high temperature and was very lethargic. She bounced back the next day, and that was ten days of no wheat and dairy. I gave her a piece of cheese and didn't see any hives.  Last night, a couple of days later, she had a sandwich and had hives on her cheeks and even her eyelids, which was a first. I gave her yogurt this morning, and my daycare provider informed me she had hives, but for lunch with the same sandwich she had last night there was no breakout.
Â
Should I be looking at another food culprit - corn, soy, or...? Or am I waiting for the virus to go away or her molars to come in? I was looking at a homeopathic hives treatment and thought I ought to try that, but I'd like to determine the underlying cause and a long-term solution.   Â
