IUD removal?

I got the mirena. Had 6 weeks of spotting to light flow, pretty much immediately after that stopped I started cramping. I've been cramping daily for 2 months now, have recently gotten worse (ibuprofen-worthy on some days) and have periods of nausea but no symptoms of being sick so I suspect it may be the IUD. On top of that, it makes my meds less effective. So... I WANT IT OUT!!!!!!!

For those who had it removed: how painful was it? Do you think you could've walked a mile afterward with just a little rest? Anything I should know?

My midwife doesn't do IUDs anymore (though I'll have to double check that she doesn't do removal) and her backup OB is okay but he's a mile walk from the nearest bus stop which I could care less about if I wasn't getting something yanked out of my uterus, you know? I did mostly okay after the insertion (I sat down for about an hour) but before that when I got my colposcopy done I sat down halfway through the walk and cried from the pain. Considering going to a crappy but closer place if it's going to be bad, which is why I ask.

I'm sorry to hear you're having so much difficulty with the Mirena.  I absolutely love mine.  I had my first one done about 6-8 months after my oldest son's birth, and then had it removed just before we wanted to get pregnant with our second.  I remember it was about as uncomfortable having it out as it was getting it in.  I don't remember any lasting pain or discomfort or certainly not any difficulty walking afterward.  I suggest you take an Ibuprophen before you go, and then have the time to sit for a while before making the walk to the bus.  Also, just fyi, I started cycling immediately after removal- like that week.  We used protection for a month so we could get pregnant when we wanted to, and we did the first try.  Just so you know, there is no "grace period" of pregnancy protection once it's out, unlike the pill. And don't worry, I'm totally single and probably won't even be considering a relationship for a couple years. I only got it because I figured better safe than sorry when it does happen and wanted to get it before my pregnancy medicaid was up.

I don't recall having any issues after removal, unlike after insertion. If you're concerned, you might want to schedule your appointment when you don't have anything else straightaway, just in case you do feel lousy, then you can camp out at the doc's office for a while before heading out.

Got in my car, drove home, cooked dinner and went to work a 13hr night shift after removal- so...fine.

I did take some Arthrotec the night before and morning of, which my Dr recommended- it is a combination of Diclofenac (an anti-inflammatory) and misoprostol  (i.e. Cytotec- a stomach protectant, but also a mild cervical dilator), and I'm pretty sure that helped.

Could you ask your Dr if that is an option for you?

I had bad cramps when they put the Mirena IUD in, but barely any when they took it out. I had a little light spotting for a day or so, some light cramping, and that was it. I was able to run errands after without any issues.
