selling gold jewelry for cash...

Hey mamas,

I need some cash and am thinking about selling some of my jewelry.

Anyone have any recent stories to share?

I called one place and they were willing this pm to pay $25/gram for 14K and $30/gram for 18K

Well you need to convert grams to ounces.  Then you need to look at what gold is trading at on the open market and see if what the place offered you is even remotely close to a decent deal.

If I did the math right, they're willing to pay:

$714/oz for 14K and $857/oz for 18K.

The current rate for 24K (pure gold) is just over $1800/oz.

I would call around to a few places and see what their prices are.

If your jewelry is in good wearable condition you can usually sell them for higher prices than scrap gold.  They're going to give you less than the gold is worth of course because they need to make a profit.  Have them weighed and list them on ebay.  If it's pretty straight forward stuff, like a solid gold chain you should be able to at least fetch how much the gold is worth.
