Who has a Silhouette SD?

I just got my machine. I am looking for frugal tips and tricks. I know there a ton out there for the Cricut mahcines. I am looking for these for the many uses of the Silhouette. I am not really a scrapbooker. I like to make cards on occasion. I mainly want to use this for cutting craft projects to do with my little one. Any ideas, tips or tricks for this would be awesome.

I made a fabric growth chart and am looking for a simple way of putting the date and age on each marking without relying on my handwriting. I have thought about making a stencil out of sticky label paper or freezer paper. My big question is what to do about the center cutouts of letters. For example, the middle of the letter "O". When painting in the garage with my husband, we have used a bit of grese to get those middles to stick. I think it might be a headache with such tiny text. Any tips for cutting text in this machine? I am also wondering if the vinyl might work for my project. I hve not used it yet and don;t know the process.

I just ordered one last week, it should be here tomorrow.  We saw a ton of fun things to make with it at a local MakerFair last spring.  geometric solids, stars, and just lots of stuff.  One of the sysadmins where I work was there,  and he has a ton of files and projects. here is a blog entry he did about a project with his daughter's school:
