Built in weather station! Lesson suggestions please.

I was so excited I just had to tell someone and I knew this group would join in my excitement!

We just moved into our new house last weekend and I discovered yesterday that the house came with this installed!

I'm printing the instructions now to see if we can get it working properly. I'm so excited for weather lessons! I'd love any ideas anyone might have. We have one teen ds and one teen dd as well as a 5yo dd.

Awesome!

For the five year old I would have her record the stats each morning (depending on your child, this might just be the outside temp.  Also, she may or may not need assistance with this).  Later, you can introduce graphing, etc with your real data.  Measure the water in the rain gauge, later find out how deep the snow is vs how much water that is.

For your older kids, I may have them start that way too--recording & graphing data.  Maybe compare it to local averages, etc.  Does your weather station give enough info for them to work with humidity?  They can learn the difference between absolute and relative humidity and do calculations.

One activity for the 5 year old could be to draw a picture in their journal or make a scene on a felt board about the weather that day. Have them show you what kind of outfit they'd wear to stay comfortable. Do they need a jacket? An umbrella? Maybe sprinklers to run through so that they can stay cool?

Graphing for the teens would be awesome, as well. You could introduce them to Excel if they haven't used it before, as well as learning how to make different kinds of charts and graphs if they haven't already used them.

It took me a couple days to get everything working but we're up and running now!

I'm super stoked to incorporate this weather station into our regular homeschool work.

some kids get really into predicting the weather using the barometric readings etc.
