Plant Herb Discussions

Thread Starter
I am going to begin posting a plant picture every so often and then we can discuss growing habits, uses, recipes, etc..

I think this would be a great way for all of us to learn from the experience of others.

What do you think?

How long should we keep the discussion going? These will be on a sticky at the top of the forum. So periodically I will take them down and put a new one up.

What kind of plants do you want to talk about? I was going to stick with herbs but I think we can open this up to other plants. Please let me know what you think about this and what kinds of plants you would like to see.

I feel this will be a great opportunity for all of us to learn from eachothers experience.

I love this idea! I grow herbs but I am also way into perennial's. Usually the no fuss no muss forget to water and they thrive kind. We also have a big veggie garden. I try to find heirloom varieties when I can. My efforts to start seeds was a disaster so.. I'm stuck with the ones I can find at a garden center.

Can't wait to see the first photo/discussion begin..

That sounds fun. I have a few herbs, but dh does most of the cooking with them so I'm not all that into them. I am usually more concerned with my veggie patch & annual/perennial flower beds. How about putting up say, a new one each week or something like that?

Sign me up! That's a great idea.
I personally am interested in wellness herbs - those that can be used in various teas and compresses, and that can be found growing naturally in different areas, OR can be grown in the garden as a perennial.

When do we start?
What is a sticky?

I think this is a great idea!

I would love to learn the right way to grow my own herbs. Also the best ones to use in cooking and for medical purposes.

When do we start?

I loved reading this (and the sage discussion)! I too enjoy gardening! So many times I will try to strike up a conversation with some one else who claims to like gardening and they will glaze over right away when I start going on about herbs. We rent a small house, so we do not have the garden space I would like. Right now we have cilantro/corriander, lemon balm, parsley, 2 types of sage (which types I forget!), greek oregano, hot oregano, basil, catnip, and peppermint.
I long for the day when we can have horseradish, asparagus, and other long term beds! Can we talk about those sorts of things too? Edible perennial beds?
When will the next herb be up? I would love to learn more about the uses of different herbs! I have sooooo much to learn.
