options for really cheap internet

Thread Starter

I am looking for internet access cheaper than the $50 or so I pay now per month.  I use it on a laptop, for e-mail, bill paying  and occasional web surfing.  I also use it for research (school).  I am thinking of giving it up entirely, but that may be an issue because I am in school.  Looking at virgin mobile's $20 mobile plan, but wondering if it is extremely slow?  I can always go to the library to do research, so really the e-mail is the thing.  Any suggestions?

Another option is to get the attachment to the ipod touch that gets 3G signals.  Same $20 a month.

I have virgin mobile and the internet is comparable to dial up. So... most days it a no go unless its something I have time to wait for.  now I can link my email to my phone and that comes in handy and comes right through.  The internet as a whole though is a joke for me.  IDK if it would be different in another geographical area.

I would say the $600 a year for internet is a decent price and good investment for school etc.  I wouldn't want to do billpay and such at the library.
