Is it appropriate to give a gift to a neighbor or daycare provider who is muslim, such as what one usually would do at christmas? If so what do you give. I know chidlren recieve gifts, but I was not sure if it was typical for adults.

Thanks in advance, I am totally ignorant on Eid gift giving practises

Correct me if I'm wrong, according to your post I am assuming you are a non-Muslim wanting to give a gift to a Muslim acquaintance? Although I doubt they would be expecting to receive a gift for the occasion, I think that would be a nice gesture and I am sure just about any one would appreciate your thoughtfulness and desire to be inclusive to their religion. It certainly would not be inappropriate. :)

Yes, that is the case.  What would be the appropriate type of gift?

I think it would be a lovely gesture that would be very much appreciated.  Honestly, give what you'd give somebody else for Christmas.  The only prohibitions would be no alcohol/pork (gelatin) in food gifts. :)

You can write "Happy Eid" or "Eid Mubarak" or "Eid Sayeed" as a greeting.  :)

When I was a daycare provider, I got gift cards to a few different restaurants.  One mom bought us all lunch one day at one place where I worked.  A dad gave the teacher I worked with tickets to the local baseball games, that got passed to me because the teacher already had season passes.  I've gotten candy.  A snowfall/snowman scene mug with hot chocolate ingredients and candy canes--that was obviously winter!

yeah just no pork, gelatin, or alcohol.
