Breech VBAC in RI

  Hello again,

I' have not ruled out my limited HB VBAC options but am now considering starting a simultaneous search for an OB who is open to attempting a breech VBAC at a hospital. My first was 41 w 10lbs breech Csect. My grandmothers 4 children were all born breech vaginal. Her daughter my mother had 9 vaginal head down births. My current CNM examined my pelvis and said she was pretty sure I could a baby or three out of it. I'm just wondering if I should switch to someone who will attempt a breech vaginal delivery now (12 weeks) In case. I know that there are midwives who deliver breech at home but as its my first actual labor not sure of going that route.

aghhhh, This should not be so harrowing!

Any advise is helpful Thanks A,

I just had a conversation with my homebirth midwife last week about what would happen if baby should be in a breech presentation.  I had a normal vaginal delivery last time and from what I was told, breech automatically risks me out of a homebirth.  I would not even be given a trial of labor at the hospital, it would mean an automatic C-section, which really surprised me.  She said that there used to be a midwife from another state who would attend breech births at home but she is no longer practicing here.  And from what I gathered from the conversation, there are no providers who will attempt a vaginal breech birth in any hospital here.  I'm sure others will correct me if this is wrong, and please do so!  I would actually like to be aware of any other options open to me should that turn out to be the case.

I hope you are able to get the answers that you need and best of luck to you!

I also don't know of anyone who will deliver breech, however I wouldn't worry too much about it, as it's very rare to have a breech baby that doesn't turn if you try everything there is to be tried- chiro, moxibustion, home remedies etc., spinningbabies.com has helpful positions to do during pregnancy to encourage baby to stay head down.  And of course yes, some babies just do stay breech, and sometimes for good reason that would require a section, sometimes not...but having one breech baby doesn't mean you'll have another.  If you don't mind sharing, who's your CNM?

I just remembered Mary Haley told me she had done breech births...although they may have been "accidental".  Don't know.

At the moment Susan Lowe. I go there because its close and I hate prov/pwt traffic and parking. I like her if I were to deliver at Memorial. I'm concerned because my grandmothers 4 children were all breech, thus perhaps a phenom. Thanks for the support.
