we are up for our military transfer and Nantucket is a possibility. Anyone know about living there year round? Thanks

What kinds of things are you wanting to know about specifically?

I lived there pre-kids, but IME it can be difficult in the winters (grey & kind of depressing when it gets dark really early).  Shops/restaurants that are open year-round typically close earlier & sometimes are open fewer days.  However the winters are milder/less snow than typical New England winters & the shoulder seasons (especially Fall IMO) are truly beautiful there (as is summer, though the population rises a lot in the summer so it's busy with lots of summer residents & tourists).

It's truly a special place though - like stepping back in time - and a unique place to live.  If you love the ocean & beach & the outdoors in general it could be a great opportunity.  There are miles of paved bike trails, conservation areas with trails, and obviously it's an amazing place for sailing, surfing & other water sports.

Do you know how long you would be there?

It is beautiful place but I am not sure I could live there yr round.
It is dark and gray through the winter, costly to get things off island.
But at the same time, it is my favorite place in the world!
We have a family home there and I could not imagine going anywhere else!
There is great local food and wonderful people!
Good luck!!
