DS (3)  will be transitioning soon from his toddler bed (converted crib) to a twin bed and we're searching for a quality, but not totally expensive (relatively speaking) non-toxic twin mattress.  The two we're looking at right now are:

One by Vivetique (through Dax Stores) that has innersprings, but is tufted to be more comfy, and is available in firm (216 coils) or extra firm (340 coils)

And Naturpedic's 2 in 1, which offers a double-sided innerspring mattress...one side covered in food-grade polyethylene to be pee-proof and the other side tufted to be more comfortable for when they outgrow the accidents-in-bed stage.

We like the added reassurance of the polyethylene side since our wool puddle pad doesn't keep all moisture from reaching the mattress (and if we're spending a lot of a mattress, we want to avoid ruining it)...and it's also a bit cheaper.  Our big hesitation with the Naturepedic is that the coil count is 450, which sounds beyond "extra firm"...and if we're going to end up having to buy something like a wool topper a few years down the road, should we just spend the extra money now on the more comfortable mattress?

Anyone have experience with the Naturepedic mattress or have other recommendations?
