My sister had a 3rd-degree tear with her birth 3 weeks ago. Nothing wrong with that (except it would majorly suck), it happens. Until I found out why - the OB was down there STRETCHING her with his hands. Hands. Plural. When she told him to stop because it was hurting worse than the labor pains, did he stop like a normal person? No, he numbed her up with Novocaine so she wouldn't feel it. And oh, look, a 3rd-degree tear! I'm so pissed on her behalf! Baby wasn't in distress, nothing was wrong, except she had been pushing for longer than he'd like
Gah, I told her next time she needs a midwife. At home. Don't know if she'll listen, but maybe I planted a seed...
