Help Quick! - Safety gate

Our newly (rented) townhouse has pretty high baseboards at the top of some stairs that we need to gate. The one we used at our old place won't work. Help! How do we do this?

We used http://www.safety1st.com/usa/eng/Products/Home-Safety/Gates/Details/448-41824-Perfect-Fit-Gate at the top of our stairs.  It comes with hardware to attach it to the studs, and then it swings open.  At our current house we use it as a regular gate with no hardware attached.  I really like it.

Can you remove the baseboards and then put them back on when you move/no longer need the gate?

Ohh I see what you're saying.  The Safety First gate did have some kind of adjustable side thing that would help with the bottom being a bit narrower than the top.  I'm not very good at describing things.  But it would work.

We ended up purchasing this gate: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4322419&searchURL=false which is pressure mounted. My hubby was concerned about the bar across the bottom being a tripping hazard but we are all managing just fine stepping over it. I like that the gate swings shut behind.

So far so good. I do have to be careful when opening it to lift the gate as high as it needs to go. I figure it's just the style of gate. Previously we had one that just had a latch and then swung open but they would have required us to drill into the baseboards and hubby wasn't thrilled with that thought.
