Anyone do serial follicle measurements?

Not really sure what it's technically called, but basically getting u/s to measure the follicles until it ruptures (or doesn't).  I am in the middle of mine and not sure what to make of everything yet.  On Monday, my dominant follicle was 13mm.  Thursday, it was 19mm, Friday it was 23, and today (Saturday), it's 25.  I've read that ovulation typically occurs between 22-24 but I'm not sure if that's regularly or during medicated or otherwise assisted cycles.  Anyone know what I should be looking for or when to be concerned (or relieved, depending on how you look at it) that there is a problem?

Sorry, I've never had that done. But I don't want you to feel alone! Hopefully your follicle has ruptured by now and it's a moot point, but from what I understand your follicle could grow a little more or take a couple of more days to rupture. If it doesn't rupture soon, though, it might mean you have Luteinizing Unruptured Follicle Syndrome, where your follicles grow, but never release the egg. So if it doesn't rupture soon, that would be concerning. Good luck!

Hi, CallieOllie:

I am going through this now, but my first u/s is tomorrow, so I don't have measurements yet.  My RE said I may or may not need additional u/s, it just depends on the measurements tomorrow.  I'm taking Follistim, so maybe my situation is different?  Not really sure that it's all that different, but I may have more follicles, as that's what Follistim is supposed to do.  Will you take Ovridel to release the egg or are you/your RE planning to let it happen on its own?  Our plan is to take the Ovridel just to make sure the egg is released.  You may want to ask about it.  My RE said that the follicles grow 2-4 mm a day, so it seems you're right on track and it's great that you have a follicle that's ready to go!   Hopefully you'll O soon (either on your own or with something). If you're interested, I'll let you know what happens with my measurements.

M.

I must have ovulated shortly after I posted because the next day I went in, it had ruptured.  I figured I was ovulating since I have conceived twice (although miscarried) in the past 18 months but wasn't sure if I'm ovulating at the "right" time or if the environment is good or not.  I don't have any results from it yet (just that I ovulated, not the measurements of my lining or anything else it's supposed to tell).  I can post more one I know more.

Thanks for the update! Glad that you are at least ovulating, and hopefully your other test results will show something!

Hi Callieollie, I know you ovulated already, but I just wanted to chime in with what I know. Yes, I've had this done, and my RE told me it's individual at what point you'll ovulate naturally. Some women are "eighteeners" while others are "twenty-fivers," or somewhere in between. That was the range she gave me for a natural cycle, 18-25mm. Hope all your other stuff looks great!
