I just discovered my whole family has been infested with lice! Â ICK!! Â After finding a live bug on my head, I panicked and rushed out to the drugstore to buy something to take care of the problem. Â I didn't want to chemicals that may not work anyway, so I ended up buying a product called Lice Freee! spray which is nontoxic and is supposed to kill lice and eggs. Â The active ingredient is sodium chloride (basically table salt) and it theoretically dries out the lice and dehydrates the eggs so they can't hatch. Â
Â
I sprayed the whole family, let their hair dry, then started combing -- and basically haven't stopped since, LOL. Â I'm afraid to even say this, but the spray seems to have worked so far. Â Three days later and I haven't yet found a live bug, and the nits seem to be coming out pretty easily. Â (I use tons of conditioner to make the comb go through more easily). Â Just to be sure, and because it's really hard to comb your own hair, I sprung for a professional nitpicker (Texas Lice Squad in Houston, highly recommend, BTW!) and she declared DH and DS lice and nit-free and said that DD and I just had a few nits left, most of which were dead. Â She did say, though, that no product can kill the eggs and they could've been damaged by my continual combing.Â
Â
Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried this product before and I'm hoping that it is as safe and nontoxic as it claims to be. Â In the midst of my panic, I didn't stop to think too much about it. Â I will say it smells nice (like black licorice) and doesn't seem harsh in any way. Â The bottle says it's safe to use as often as you want, even every day, which I've been doing just in case any of those overlooked nits do hatch. Â And in the meantime, just to be extra-safe, we'll continue to comb, comb, comb.
Â
Lice are so disgusting!!!
