Ok to nurse after a sting ray sting?

Thread Starter

I am still nursing my 23 month old once per day.  This morning I as stung badly by a sting ray.  I was treated at the hospital and released.  I only took nursing safe antibiodics and pain meds but no one could tell me if nursing was safe.  I've tried to Google it with no luck.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Websites I could look at?  I'm guessing this doesn't probably come up that much.

Thanks.

Wow that's a new one!

I would look into a few things and decide based on them

Ask what is the active lifespan of the toxin or they have a "half-life"
Ask what the toxin does in the body
Ask what organs help remove this type of toxin
Ask if it can be detected in blood, urine and body fluids or does it stay in tissue locally

I'm guessing these things have been studied but just not for breastfeeding. The results could give you better science to base a choice on though.

Good luck and get well

Great ideas from Adorkable. Where are you located? If I were you, I'd call infantrisk and see what they had to say.

Did you try poison control?  I might give them a call and see what they say.  I tend to think it's probably OK, but I understand your hesitation.
