Ohio-Again//Cleveland/akron

I'm back and forth on my decision to move to ohio or not. I've posted about this before. I was literally packed and ready to go in May and decided to stay in AZ.

Now I'm realizing how wrong a choice that was.  Ohio isn't going to be a cakewalk but my ex wont be living there and hopefully the economy will be better.

How are things in the Cleveland Area for someone with 15-20 years of banking/finance experience.

I can do call center, finance, fraud,  anything.... I just gotta get a plan together to get the heck outta here after the holidays.

Plus you guys have some pretty awesome homeschool groups that my DS is dying to get into.  We have squat here.

Hi-

I am not in the (paid) workforce at the moment, so i don't know how things are around here, but I know the finance/banking industry is big around here, and I suspect with a lot of experience and flexibility you would find something w/out too much trouble. Cost of living here is excellent, and it's a very family-friendly place -- lots of stuff to do, much of it very reasonably priced (or free). Also, little known fact -- there's a thriving local food movement here w/tons of choices and lots of urban farming getting off the ground. Cleveland has lots to recommend it -- but comes with more cloudy/rainy days than I wish were the case. Coming from sun-drenched AZ that may take some getting used to. But snow is great fun, too!

Good luck w/your decision.

Ahhhhh an east side friend.  Where all the 'good' stuff is.

I might make a trip up there this winter, just to remind myself what winter actually is and get a feel for the job market.

Akron is also in the running.

My child is demanding a competitive swim team and a quality theater program.  Plus a science club for his homeschool activities.

This is why i need a job!

Key is the big banking thing here.  Lots of layoffs from what I have heard. BIL works there and has shifted jobs a bunch in the last few years.  Some due to his choice and some due to departments closing.  It's like anywhere really.  If call centers are an option Progressive is another major employer here but again, they aren't hiring at this time (was just talking with a friend who works there about this on Saturday.)  I have a cousin who works for BoA and will be unemployed as of Jan. 1.

COL is a big draw but if there aren't any jobs, which is a BIG issue, that doesn't matter much.

I like it here.  We (DH and I) are both born and raised here and won't leave unless we HAVE to but there isn't much going on here right now.  If you are employed now, I would stay put till things (hopefully) improve.

Hello-  My lease is up in 6 weeks and I really need to make this move for a number of reasons.

How is the economy up there??

I'm open to Cleveland /Akron.  My DS is on a competitive swim team where we are now and there seem to a few of those up there. I've looked at the Hudson team, Firestone Team and Strongsville Team.  He is also looking at a homeschool science team (husdon again).

Why is everything so far from the city???...which makes Akron a good fit if there are jobs in that area.

I still need to stay close to the Cuyahoga/Summit county line for living.

If you want to PM me with details that would be great...  we need to get out of AZ asap!!

I am willing to partner with a temp agency until something full time comes along. I will also be transferring my teaching/substitute certificate, however that won't help me much on summer break
