So, we tried night weaning our 2 yo DS, using Dr. Jay Gordon's method. We did about 5 nights and then I just couldn't take it anymore and gave up. DS wasn't upset about not nursing during the night, I just couldn't get him back to sleep. First night he woke up around 2:30 and I patted, rocked, walked him around, etc. He would almost go back to sleep, then I would lay him down and he would start rolling around and wake up again. After repeating this for about an hour, he was completely awake, so we got up and read some stories. He was up until 5 am, which is when it was okay to nurse him again (using 10pm-5am as the 7 hour period). Same thing the second night. By the third night, he was waking up around 3 am and asking to read stories. So, basically, he replaced the nursing habit with a habit of getting up and reading stories from 3-5 am every night, which was MUCH more tiring than nursing all night! Now I feel very discouraged, like I am never going to sleep again. Any thoughts about what to do differently if try again in a few weeks?
