I'm 8 weeks now, and we've told our family, and I've told a few close friends, but dh really wants to hold off on telling work, neighbors, general friends until 12 weeks. The tough thing is, I'm friends with the wife of one of his co-workers, and we're getting together tomorrow with our girls-- and she wants to g oout to lunch. Blech. It's not a big deal, and I can get out of the lunch part, but there have been a number of weird food-related events lately that I've kind of weaseled around because of my sickness. I'm wondering when she's going to either decide I must have some horrible stomach bug or figure out what's going on on her own. it just feels like it would be SO much easier if I could tell her, but I get that dh isn't ready for it to get all over his work yet. Is anybody else trying to hide it still, and having a tough time like this? The smells, etc. make me feel so ill, that it's really kind of limiting, without being able to offer some explanation. I'm so hoping that this clears up by 12 weeks!!
hiding morning sickness while the pg is still secret
Fake it and hope for the best? I had pretty severe morning sickness with my last pregnancy (less so with this one). I was barfing 3 times a day minimum, couldn't eat food, etc. I worked as a shelver at the library and regularly barfed 3 times in those 5 hour shifts, usually in the small employee breakroom. No one ever heard anything. I hosted a dinner party at 8 weeks and managed to not throw up during it. I somehow managed to luck out on all of this, despite spending most of my time miserable or barfing.
I dunno, but I can commiserate. I mostly just feel like I'm going to pass out, which is worse when I'm trying to do things like run around outside in the heat. Grr. How about telling your friend you started a new vitamin that is making your stomach queasy, or that you've got a headache?
We haven't told my parents yet and I'm running out of excuses for being "lazy and grumpy." Maybe I should just tell them.
I had to tell a few of my coworkers at 5 weeks because I was so sick and tired at work, and completely unable to do parts of my job, so I have no advice. Up until then it was hard enough, but some days, I don't STOP throwing up, so it kinda was a giveaway. Good luck keeping it a secret though. I hope you have an easier time than I did.
I told my boss today b/c I can feel the m/s coming and she is kind of a mother hen/worrier, I wouldn't want her to think something was wrong, lol. Plus, she is my friend, too, and she it totally happy and excited for us. I'm 6 wks. A lot earlier than I wanted to tell her, but since yesterday, everytime I drink water, I get queasy, so the m/s is just a matter of time.
Good luck! I hope everything works out ok and you get to keep your secret as long as you want! Can your friend keep a secret? If you explain that you don't want everyone @ DH's office to know, will she respect that?
Thanks guys! We managed to make it today by having our playdate a little early and going to Caribou Coffee instead of out to some lunch place (a decaf frap and coffee cake are about what I could handle-- though my friend ordered a surprisingly stinky sandwich!) It feels strange to me beig secretive, because sometimes it almost feels like I'm lying to people by not being open about it, you know? When I was pg with dd, everyone knew fairly early because I was still working in a lab, and had to shift around duties for safety reasons.
Thankfully the med really seems to be helping, though I still feel like it's cause for a celebration whenever I manage to consume protein of any sort. I used to feel great from 12-4pm, and now even that is pretty iffy. Trying to take it as a comfort that maybe the pg is going well in there- though I'll be so happy when this phase is past!
read this thread. Good luck. I have no morning sickness this time but am terrified of getting it. If it rears its ugly head i will use the strategies on the posted link.
