Quick and glorious update! Aiden had his surgery on monday and it went as best as we could have hoped for. They were able to repair his intestines laproscopically, so his incisions were very small, which means less down time (there was a possibility they would have to do it open). The surgery took about 4 hours, which was very long for such a little guy, but they did come out and give updates to ease our worried minds! He was placed on a ventilator post op because of the pain medication and trauma on an infant can cause breathing problems. He was able to have it removed in less than 12 hours, which was great! He has continued to improve this week and he pooped his very first 2 poops on Wednesday! A great sign! When I saw him on Wednesday night, he was fussy and squirmy and I was worried I was hurting him, then he farted! Another great sign! His intestines are working! He was doing so well that they pulled his OG tube (tube down his throat into his tummy that suctioned out bile, etc so he doesnt reflux or aspirate it) this morning at 10 am and if he is able to keep digesting, and not barf or spit up.. they will start giving him a little pedialite tonight or tomorrow! If he passes the pedialite challenge, then they will start him on my colostrum. Tiny little bits of intake, but then will increase his intake as he tolerates it! Everyrthing is going much better than we could have ever hoped for!
He is such a strong little guy. I cant wait to take him home!
Laproscopic surgery, vent removed, pooping, tube removed! Wow wow wow! That is all fantastic news!
I hope you get to give him some of your colostrum soon. What a sweet moment that will be. I hope the pumping is going well for you, and continues to go well until you guys are able to start nursing.
What great news!! YAY Aiden! I couldnt image how tiny everything must be in a pedi OR (I am a surgical tech) to do lap bowel surgery! How absolutely amazing! What a tough little dude to stick it out through all that. I cant wait for you to take him home..that must be so hard to leave without him. And btw...he is just gorgeous! I love seeing the pics you post. Your strength is such an inspiration! :-)
