Food sensitivities?

I hope I am putting this in the right place. From hanging around MDC, I've seen talk about foods, dyes, preservatives affecting kids' moods and behaviors. Sometimes my toddler gets pretty wacky. He's generally a pretty high energy kid but there are times when he is just overly everything. I've been thinking there might be a connection to either his diet or his sleep or both. I've been thinking about keeping a journal to try to narrow down what might be the issue but I wonder how easy it will be to figure out. When I mentioned it to my mom she said she noticed he gets hyper after sugar. (We recently stayed with her for ~two months.) But I will have a big problem convincing my hubby we need to avoid foods with our son since hubby is very mainstream thinking.

Any suggestions?

a food journal is a great idea, because it's pure science: cause and effect. And usually reproducible since you can see a distinct pattern. You need to put all ingredients down. And sometimes there's a bucket effect, like a little sugar is okay, but a ton is not. That could be sugar, or all carbs (like a neighbor of mine found out; her daughter was having wicked tantums as her sugar went low after high carbs/sugar). It could also be a salicylate reaction, which is a bucket effect. A few grapes okay. A pound of grapes and a few glasses of apple juice, not okay. But a good food journal will give you all that information.
